U.S. Supreme Court to consider allowing Republican bid to defend Trump-era immigration rule -Breaking

(Reuters) – On Friday, the U.S. Supreme Court accepted a request by a group Republican state officials for a hearing to defend a controversial immigration rule that was issued by President Donald Trump’s former administration. It had prohibited certain immigrants from acquiring legal permanent residence because they were likely to need government benefits.

They heard an appeal from 13 Republican state attorneys general, including Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich against a lower court ruling which rejected their request to defend Trump’s rule of “public charges”. President Joe Biden dropped government support for the policy. The rule was vacated nationwide by an Illinois federal judge.
