Is the Metaverse as Friendly as We Imagine It? -Breaking
[ad_1]
Are We as Kind as we Imagine the Metaverse?- These same companies have been guiding our digital interactions for the past decade in the creation of the metaverse.
- To prevent Silicon Valley Hegemony, a multiverse interoperable with common frameworks must be created.
- Every element that interacts with the metaverse must function decentralized.
Did you attend this year’s “Metaverse Festival,” hosted by Decentraland? Chances are you didn’t because there isn’t much going on in the metaverse at the moment. Well, that’s not entirely true. This is to put it in perspective: Paris Hilton and Deadmau5 were performing while Playboy (OTC:) sponsored the festival.
The current digital utopia of the metaverse has been promoted by large tech companies. Unfortunately, blockchain is growing in tandem with society’s desire for an interconnected digital culture, but not following the guidelines of Silicon Valley tech gurus.
Ignored in the Marketing Cycle
The future vision of digital life is only a dream. There is a plausible future upon which Silicon Valley’s titans will fight over for control—yes, Mark Zuckerberg, we know you want to be ahead of the pack. The extent that the metaverse is able to replicate real-life, however, remains to be seen.
It has been widely promoted as the next stage in the evolution of the internet. However, when first introduced in “Snow Crash” by Neal Stephenson in 1992, the metaverse was make believe. As idealists attempt to fully implement it, the dystopian future of our digital avatars and interactions is now in doubt, due to previous problems still not resolved by Web 2.0.
Hidden from Reality
Facebook (NASDAQ:) proved their habit-forming mechanics were made to benefit their bottom line while disregarding users’ well-being. What’s more is that while the metaverse is marketed as utopic, the end result could be further than what we’re made to believe. Vice stated that the metaverse could become “a place that is addictive, violent, and an enabler of our worst impulses,” even more than what we’re currently dealing with.
Metaverse can be used as a side-hustle, however Web 2.0 is proving to be quite challenging. Tech protagonists are able to appreciate that. We aren’t ready to face the cultural shifts that the metaverse will bring, however.
What’s being misunderstood from the entire Facebook metaverse narrative is that we might become dependent on a single entity to create our digital experiences. Our digital realities will be shaped by tech companies, but we’ll still have to accept the biased opinions propagated through their agenda.
The metaverse will be a place where people can freely express themselves, but monopolistic inputs could severely limit their freedom. Monish Darda argued that the metaverse would act as a digital enhancer, which could cause people to “lose touch of reality,” contrary to what we’re actually made to believe.
But how will blockchain be able to mitigate the “side effects” of the metaverse?
To The Flipside
- Facebook plans to hire more than 10,000 workers to create the first version of its metaverse.
- Users and participants in networked metaverses are creating metaverse culture.
Fictionalization of The Metaverse
Implementation risks can be mitigated by cryptocurrencies to some extent. However, Nigel Green, CEO of deVere Group, argued that crypto investors would become the “masters of the metaverse” as early adopters of new technologies. The metaverse will change the way we interact and live, so openness as well as network must be considered to avoid any industry shifts.
The key to digital utopia is interoperability. Theo, author of “The Future Starts Now,” emphasized a metaverse is a single world that belongs to the multiverse. It is common to believe that the metaverse can be our ultimate portal to digital selves. Theo stresses that in order for several metaverses, such as Roblox and Minecraft, to connect, they must have a set standard to encourage interoperability.
The new communication protocol is the multiverse, and it’s what billion-dollar firms are trying to create. ChainLink God 2.0 highlighted that a decentralized multiverse is “the only scalable and sustainable solution,” which can be attained as blockchain technology matures into a scalable and fast adapting framework.
What are the reasons to care?
We are still searching for the perfect metaverse. The best way to enter an error-free Web 3.0 era, however, is to build an interoperable metaverse which does not reflect the same capitalist ideals.
