According to the most recent national survey, the majority of Americans disapprove of President Joe Biden’s performance as a president, but half of them give him poor marks for his competence and unifying the nation. NBC News poll
The survey also found that nearly half of Americans, 7/10, think the country is heading in the wrong direction. Nearly 60 percent of those polled thought Biden’s economic stewardship was negative just nine months after he assumed office.
Just one year to the Virginia midterm elections next year, and less than seven days before Virginia’s tightly watched election race for governorBiden’s low standing in the party has had a negative impact on the party. Democrats are trailing Republicans when it comes to which party is better at managing the economy, inflation, and immigration. They’ve also lost ground on other issues, such as education and the coronavirus.
According to Jeff Horwitt, a Democratic pollster from Hart Research Associates who was accompanied by Bill McInturff (Public Opinion Strategies), “Democrats now face a nation whose opinions of President Biden have turned sharply towards the negative since April,” he said.
“The promise of the Biden presidency — knowledge, competence and stability in tough times — have all been called into question,” Horwitt continued.
Peter Hart, another Democratic pollster added that people had voted to get stability and calm. They got chaos and instability.
In the poll, 42 percent of adults say they approve of Biden’s overall job as president — a decline of 7 points since August, with much of the attrition coming from key parts of the Democratic base.
This is compared with 54 percent of those who said they don’t approve of the job done by President Trump, up six points from August.
Utilize Gallup’s historical dataThis poll shows that Biden’s approval rating (42%) is lower than the average approval score of any modern first-year president at this time in history, except for Donald Trump, whose approval was 37 percent in fall 2017.
Among a narrower set of registered voters, Biden’s job rating stands at 45 percent who approve, 52 percent who disapprove — a drop from 50 percent who approve, 48 percent who disapprove from two months ago.
This poll by NBC News comes following a difficult summer and early fall for President Obama, who has been faced with a fresh surge of voters. coronavirus cases and deathsFallout from the chaotic U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan rising inflation disappointing jobs numbers and Democratic infighting over Biden’s legislative agenda.
However, Covid-19-related deaths and cases have declined in recent years. Capitol Hill Democrats are making progress toward Biden’s legislative priorities. still haven’t crossed the finish line
According to the poll, 41% of Americans approve of President Obama’s economy handling (down 7 points from August) and 51% approve of his handling the coronavirus (down two points).
Maybe even more troubling for Biden, just 37 percent of adults give him high marks — on a 5-point scale — for being competent and effective as president, and only 28 percent give him high marks for uniting the country.
However, he is given low marks by 50 percent for his competence and 51 percent for unifying the nation.
Finally, Biden’s favorable/unfavorable rating in the poll (40 percent positive, 48 percent negative) is almost identical to Trump’s in the same survey (38 percent positive, 50 percent negative).
That’s a change from the 2020 general election, when Biden’s favorable/unfavorable rating was significantly higher than Trump’s.
70% believe that the country is not on the right track
NBC News also polled 71% of Americans to determine if they think the country is heading in the wrong direction. This 8-point increase since August.
It includes 93 percent Republicans, 70% independents, and 48 percent Democrats.
McInturff stated that when you see 71% of the track wrong, it’s a red flashing light. This is not the right track, these people tell us.
Respondents were asked about America’s future by just 41% of those surveyed. 53% said America is in its best year yet.
However, the survey shows signs of optimism regarding the economy and coronavirus, despite the pessimism.
A majority of respondents — 56 percent — believe the worst is past when it comes to the coronavirus, which is up 18 points from August, when the delta variant was beginning to surge across the country
While 30 percent believe they’re moving ahead in their financial lives, 45 percent feel they are staying the same. This compares to the 24% who claim they are falling behind, or even worse off.
Looking forward to 2022
Looking ahead to 2022 midterm elections, which will take place a year from now, 47 percent of registered voters say they prefer a Democratic-controlled Congress, while 45 percent say they want Republicans in charge — essentially unchanged from August.
However, the GOP holds a considerable enthusiasm advantage during this period of the election cycle. With 69 per cent of Republicans showing a high level (on a 1-to-10 basis) interest in the midterms, it is compared with 58 per cent of Democrats.
If asked about which party is better at handling particular issues, Republicans have double-digit advantage on border security (by 27, 24 points), inflation (24 points), crime (22.2 points), national security (20 points), economy (18 points), and effectiveness and getting things done (13)
Democrats, on the other hand, hold double-digit edged positions regarding abortion (10 points), coronavirus (12 point) and climate change (24) but these advantages are much smaller than the ones the party had during the 2020 elections.
Will Trump be a factor — or not?
The poll also found that 20 percent of voters believe their vote in 2022 is a sign of opposition to Trump, and 21 percent say it will signal opposition to Biden.
A majority of voters — 52 percent — say their vote won’t be a signal about either Trump or Biden.
McInturff explained that little to him indicates that Trump, one year after his election, is a unique figure that’s driving voter turnout.
The NBC News poll was conducted Oct. 23-26 of 1,000 adults — 650 of whom were reached only by cellphone — and it has an overall margin of error of plus-minus 3.1 percentage points.
There is an error margin of plus/minus 3.4 percent for 820 poll-registered voters.
