TOKYO (Reuters). A man in Batman’s Joker costumes, aged 24, attacked commuters on a Tokyo train on Sunday. The attack left about 10 injured as party-goers rushed into Tokyo for Halloween festivities.

According to media reports, police arrested the attacker right away. Media reported that a 60-year-old man was left in serious condition following the stabbing. Witnesses claimed the attacker also spread fluid and lit a fire around the train.

A stream of people ran away from the train car, which was then set ablaze by a tiny explosion. Another video captured passengers making frantic runs to get out of train windows onto platform, where it had stopped for emergency reasons.

According to one witness, he believed it was a Halloween trick. The Yomiuri newspaper recalled how he saw passengers run in panic toward his train car. “Then, I witnessed a man walk this way and slowly wave a knife.” He claimed that there was blood on his knife.

Media reported that the attack took place on the Keio express train bound for Shinjuku at 8:50 p.m. (11100 GMT).

Partial service on the Keio line remained suspended late on Sunday, when Japanese voters went to the polls https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/japan-votes-test-new-pm-kishida-political-stability-2021-10-30 in a lower house election. On TV, you could see scores of policemen and firefighters standing outside the station that the train was stopped at.
