Aavegotchi Review – Tamagotchi, but with Ghosts [Halloween Special]
  • Virtual pets were a revolutionary concept in crypto gaming, but they have been copied too many times.
  • Aavegotchi took its inspiration from Tamagotchi rather than Pokémon and mixed it with interesting visuals as well as peculiar mechanics.

The crypto-gaming industry has seen virtual pet games become one of its most popular categories. The evolution is quite obvious: as NFTs are the main pivot in blockchain games, Pokémon’s motto “catch them all” is one of the first things that comes to mind when connecting these two factors.

In addition, CryptoKitties’ and CryptoPunks’ popularity encouraged the inclusion of gaming features to the well-functioning collecting system. We got the, which placed blockchain gaming at high rotation.

Virtual pet games, on the other hand, have overtaken the market. Axies and Binamon are just a few examples of virtual pet games that spring to mind. There are so many options that it can be hard to pick the right game. Research has shown that when people have too many options, they tend to select the most boring option. Markets are plagued by overchoice.

It is wise for developers to choose one feature that will make the project unique. In this review, we’ll look at what Aavegotchi has to offer.

Aavegotchi: Cuter than scary

Its visual design grabs people’s attention. Pixelated ghosts don’t appear in such games often. Inspiration came from the protocol that the game runs on. Strangely enough, the graphics themselves are more retrowave-inspired than scary. This is a great move as the project needs to remain relevant throughout the year.

However, if we look a little closer, we’ll find out more peculiarities about the game itself. The name clearly indicates that the game is inspired by classic Tamagotchi. Although you shouldn’t feed your creatures, you can pet them and purchase unique wearables.

One interesting characteristic is the fact that NFTs for gaming ghosts can be used in 2D or 3D. This allows you to easily change its dimensions.

The Aavegotchi community allows for the creation of mini-games. Reverse Pacman and Sushi Vader are two-dimensional games. Aadventure on the other side is a 3-D strategy, similar to Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. You can also use the NFT ghosts to play in both dimensions.

Developers have promised to make their games, as well as those of the Aavegotchi Metaverse, available as quickly as possible. Developers have been working on the concept of creating Gotchiverse, which would include a range of geographical landmarks. It’s the place for socializing, quest search, yield farming and harvesting, and collecting Gotchus Alchemica, the local in-game resources, based on ERC20 protocol. They are called FOMO, KEK and ALPHA respectively. There will be three major zones: the Citadel (the Grid), the Beyond, and the Beyond.

Another peculiarity is that the community’s mini-games or dApps will work as NPCs. It could be, for example, a character that gives you quests or something more complex. This allows the community to design the world they desire, rather than being dictated or controlled by developers.

The last question concerns where you can get your first ghost NFT. Gotchis do not list on OpenSea, or other smaller NFT markets. Aavegotchi Maall is the official shop and Baazaar is the second-hand one. You can also buy ghosts from your friends. As it’s an NFT, you can do whatever you want with them.

The cryptocurrency for the ecosystem is GHST, and it runs on Aave protocol. Moreover, if you don’t want to pay high gas fees, Aavegotchi provides an option to bridge from Polygon to and back.

You can choose to buy a ghost, or a portal. Portal players can summon the portal by choosing the portal option. After opening the portal, you’ll be able to choose 1 of 10 Gotchis. You can keep used portals for mini-games or reselling.

Flipside

  • One portal costs approximately 100 GHST, which is around $200 at the token’s current price. This game is definitely one with the highest investment level. Unfortunately scholarships are not available yet. However, the initial investment to play Axie Infinity is $1.5K.
