MILAN (Reuters – Italy’s competition watchdog announced Tuesday that it has dropped a probe into Alphabet’s (NASDAQ: Google) alleged abuses of its dominant position on the online display advertising marketplace after an EU antitrust investigation.

According to its weekly bulletin, the Italian watchdog has decided not to pursue any legal action because it was now exempted from EU legislations.

The European Commission launched an investigation to determine if Google is causing competition. Google was found favoring its own advertising technology services online, at the expense and disadvantage of advertisers and competitors.
