Marathon Petroleum (NYSE) reported Tuesday its third quarter results, beating analysts’ estimates and exceeding expectations.

Marathon Petroleum reported earnings per share at $0.73 on $32.61B in revenue. Investing.com polled analysts to predict EPS at $0.6982 on $19.68B revenue.

Marathon Petroleum shares rose 62.62% over the course of the year but are down 2.20% from October 26’s 52-week peak of $68.78. They are outperforming the S&P 500 which is up 22.83% from the start of the year.

Marathon Petroleum’s earnings are in line with major energy sector companies this month

Marathon Petroleum’s latest report is following an Exxon Mobil earnings beat on Friday. Exxon Mobil reports EPS $1.58 for $73.79B in revenue, while forecasts call for EPS $1.56 for $71.13B.

Chevron beat all expectations Friday, posting a third-quarter EPS of $2.96 on $44.71B in revenue. This compares to the $2.2 forecasted for revenue of $39.97B.
