(Reuters) – Tesla (NASDAQ) – Elon Musk, Inc’s top boss, stated that the electric vehiclemaker has not yet signed a contract to Hertz more than a week following the announcement by Hertz about a huge deal.
Tesla’s stock fell by 5% in premarket trading to $1,146 after an abrupt jump due to the big-ever Hertz order of 100,000 electric vehicles. It helped Tesla reach $1 trillion market capitalization.
Musk sent a tweet late Monday, “If any… is based Hertz. I’d like you to emphasize that there has yet been no contract.”
“Hertz deal has zero effect on our economics.”
Hertz and Tesla did not respond immediately to our request for comment.
Mark Fields, Interim Hertz’s Chief Executive Officer, had previously told Reuters that the order would mainly include Model 3 cars. If the whole order was for the mass market sedan, Tesla’s Model 3 sedan starting at around $44,000 would have a value of $4.4 billion.
Musk stated that Tesla has much more demand than it produces, so we’ll only sell vehicles to Hertz at the same margin to consumers.
