WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – The United States intends to expel Ethiopia, Mali, and Guinea from the African Growth and Opportunity Act agreement (AGOA), which allows them to travel duty-free to the United States. This is due to human rights violations.

Biden claimed that Ethiopia wasn’t in compliance with AGOA eligibility requirements for “gross violations of international recognized human right”

The letter stated that Guinea and Mali hadn’t made any progress towards establishing the rule of law, political pluralism or workers rights.

The statement stated, “Despite intense engagement between the United States, the Governments in Ethiopia, Guinea, Mali and Guinea, these governments have not addressed United States concerns over their non-compliance to the AGOA eligibility requirements.”
