LISBON, (Reuters) – Chip design company Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ) was able to avoid most of the issues associated with global shortages in chips by anticipating demand for years ahead.

Due to the pandemic, people are requesting electronics devices from their homes. This has resulted in a shortage semiconductors. They can be used for everything including mobile phones and cars.

AMD’s latest processors have been successful in capturing market share in servers and PCs, despite the fact that supply is limited.

Mark Papermaster, Chief Technology Officer at Microsoft said that the supply chain team had worked hard to provide months-to-year forecasts for our supply chain. He spoke on behalf of his company during the Web Summit conference held in Lisbon.

Everybody had to put more emphasis on the supply chains, and we have done so since the outbreak. Businesses with established relationships with chip manufacturing companies such as Taiwan’s TSMC could also guarantee a steady supply. AMD is a non-manufacturer of chips as Intel. It relies on GlobalFoundries, TSMC, and GlobalFoundries for the production.

Papermaster explained that they are using the most advanced semiconductor nodes available and are an important purchaser in this region, which is certainly helping to secure their supply chain.

Contrary automakers are the hardest affected by shortages of semiconductor chips, AMD has been focusing more on small, advanced chips. It allows AMD to better channel its resources and increases revenues, expected to increase 65% next year.
