WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – A South Carolina resident admitted to throwing objects at the police who were guarding the U.S. Capitol during the January 6 riot of Donald Trump supporters. He pleaded guilty Wednesday to a felony offense that could see him sentenced for many years.
Nicholas Languerand (26), Little River, South Carolina said that he had been convicted of one count in an indictment alleging that he assaulted federal officers with a dangerous weapon.
Languerand was already in pre-trial detention for six months. Bates informed him that he could face a sentence of 46 to 57 months in prison and a $20,000-$200,000 fine under the federal sentencing guidelines.
The attack was a failed attempt by Congress to stop the certification of Democrat Joe Biden’s win in the presidential election. Trump falsely claimed it was the result o widespread fraud.
Prosecutors also asked U.S. District judge Royce Lamberth to impose 44 month imprisonment on Scott Fairlamb. Scott Fairlamb was a former mixed martial arts fighter from Stockholm. Scott shoved a District of Columbia cop and punched his head shield.
“A 44-month sentence reflects the gravity of Fairlamb’s conduct, but also acknowledges his early admission of guilt,” prosecutors said in a court filing.
