NEW YORK (Reuters), A U.K. national was arrested Wednesday for involvement in hacking celebrity and politician’s Twitter accounts. The scheme involved the theft of $784,000 worth of cryptocurrency.

Manhattan U.S. Prosecutors said that Joseph James O’Connor (22), and his associates stole bitcoin. They also gained control over victims’ cell phones numbers, linking them with subscriber identification module cards or SIM cards.

O’Connor and two of his friends, known collectively as PlugwalkJoe and O’Connor, carried out SIM swap attacks on three Manhattan executives of a cryptocurrency company. The thieves stole the cryptocurrency belonging to two customers and then laundered it, according to the prosecutors.

O’Connor did not immediately identify a lawyer. According to the Prosecutors, O’Connor was involved in the scheme from March through May 2019.

These accounts were held by Joe Biden (current U.S. president), former President Barack Obama and Bill Gates. They also included Tesla (NASDAQ.)’s Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett and Kim Kardashian. Ye was once known for being Kanye West.

O’Connor was charged Wednesday with conspiracies for wire fraud and money laundering. Each case carries a maximum of 20 years in prison, along with aggravated ID theft and conspiracy to do computer hacking.
