WASHINGTON (Reuters] -U.S. Representative Rick Larsen indicated Wednesday that he and his fellow House Democrats were able to complete votes on President Joe Biden’s Social Spending and Infrastructure Bills as soon as Friday at noon.
Larsen said that voting on the infrastructure bill will take place after Biden’s vote on Biden’s climate and social policy agenda.
Last week the Democratic president, after an announcement of a framework on legislation and signaling the end to months-long infighting, left the country for a global climate conference in Scotland.
But on Monday, Democratic Senator Joe Manchin, who has been at odds with most of his party during the negotiations, said https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-congress-november-agenda-not-faint-heart-2021-11-01 he could not promise a yes vote, dimming the chances of moving forward on either bill this week.
Larsen signaled, however that voting was within reach.
Larsen, who was leaving a caucus meeting to tell Reuters that Larsen had been told the same thing could happen Friday at noon, said Larsen.
He said, “When it’s all lined up, that is the timeline.”
With the exception of a vote, we’re done with infrastructure legislation. No more discussion. There is no debate. It’s either up or down. That would happen after the Build Back better vote,” he explained, referring both to social spending and climate legislation.
Steny Hoyer, House Majority Leader, declined to comment about the sequence or timeline of expected votes.
When asked if he was as certain that both bills would be passed, the Democrat replied, “I believe so.”
