Cuban Artists To Launch Ambitious NFT collection
  • These portraits show the reality of Cuba today, both positive and negative.
  • It will launch in December, and it refers back to Christopher Columbus’ arrival in America.
  • The people depicted will receive a portion of the profits from the sale of these works.

Cuban artists will launch a wide collection of digital portraits through non-fungible tokens (NFT) in December with the purpose of creating the “Crypto Cuban Social Club.”

The Caribbean island creators’ ambitious crypto art plan involves 1,472 digital portraits of Cubans, specially designed for online collectors around the world.

In recent months, NFTs are very in demand. This digital asset collection includes a variety of collectibles, including images and videos.

Taking advantage of the NFT boom, Cuban artists have launched this collection to describe today’s Cuba. This island has seen six decades of Castro-ruled rule and is now filled with ruins. Cuba is an island that has been ruled by the Castro family for six decades. It lacks good public services, old cars and suffers from hunger.

Cryptographic art allows artists to depict the real country.

“The stories we have been told by people literally cover Cuban society. Our daily lives, our pain and our dreams.”
Guerra spoke to Reuters

This project began in September and consists of photos of Cubans on the streets, wearing creative costumes, and posing for them. It is not an accident that there are so many works. This number refers to Christopher Columbus arriving on the island, 1492.

“Freedom to Connect with Collectors around the World”

By acquiring the works, collectors will have the opportunity to interact with the “CryptoCubans” in different environments, including online platforms, live concerts, and other artistic events in the country.

The artists said the goal is to create a “unique community that will connect our music and culture with the rest of the world.”

Gabriel Guerra, the co-founder, stated that the portraits of both Cuban people and their people convey warmth and humanity, which is in stark contrast to the virtual world, which can feel distant or cold.

The encryption platforms have allowed the island’s photographers and artists to have a presence in markets and audiences, which would otherwise be impossible, since Cubans cannot travel or leave the country freely.

Guerra explained that “this can give Cuban artists not only the freedom to create, but the freedom to connect with collectors from around the world.”

20 percent of all the proceeds from the sale of works will be donated to those depicted. So 1,492 Cubans will benefit from the project by receiving cryptocurrencies and accessing the “crypto world,” the project’s website said.

Why you should care

  • The CryptoCuban Social Club has promised those who buy its NFTs that they will not get just a digital image, but full access to a growing crypto community and a “life-changing project.”
  • In August, the Cuban government declared that it will accept cryptocurrencies into its economy. Cuba is following El Salvador’s lead and others from Latin America, who see cryptocurrency as an option for increasing their investment and income.
