NAIROBI, Reuters – The United States Embassy in Addis Ababa authorized the voluntary departure from non-emergency family members and staff because of the armed conflict in Ethiopia. It stated on its website.
This was after the U.S. declared Wednesday that it was “gravely concern” by the violence and expanding hostilities. It reiterated its demand for a halt in military operations and the start of ceasefire discussions.
The embassy stated that the State Department approved the voluntary departure from Ethiopia of all non-emergency U.S. employees, family members and emergency employees on November 3.
Tuesday was a day of state of emergency in Ethiopia. Forces from Tigray, the north region, threatened to invade Addis Ababa capital.
