NEW YORK, (Reuters) – The U.S Virgin Islands asked a British bank to help them. Barclays (LON.) The bank requested information regarding Jeffrey Epstein who was convicted of sex offences, it said Friday.
According to Barclays, a subpoena was issued in the United States by the U.S Virgin Islands for February.
“Barclays provided its reply to this subpoena already and it has fulfilled all its obligations.” “The USVI is currently serving another subpoena to Barclays in U.K., and Barclays’ response will be made once that is done,” a Barclays spokesperson said.
Barclays Monday announced that Jes Steley, the Chief Executive Officer of Barclays, had resigned following disagreements with British regulators regarding how he described Epstein.
Last year, the U.S. Virgin Islands filed suit against Epstein’s estate. It claimed that Epstein had raped or trafficked in many young girls and women on an island off U.S. Virgin Island territory.
