WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – Chasten Buttigieg is the husband and U.S. Transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg said Friday that Gus, their newborn son, was out of the hospital after a week on a ventilator.

Penelope Rose, Joseph August were adopted by the couple.

Gus has returned home after 3 weeks of being in and out hospital, having travelled 125 miles by ambulance and spending a week in a ventilator. He is now smiling and doing well. Chasten Buttigieg spoke on Twitter on Friday (NYSE:).

Buttigieg stated last month to ABC, “It is such an amazing blessing. It was only 24 hours prior that we knew it would turn out to be twins, but the joy they bring to our lives is unimaginable.

Chasten declined to say the specific reason for which Chasten was treating the baby. The Transportation Department spokesperson declined to comment.

Supporters attributed Pete Buttigieg’s breaking of a long-standing political barrier that had been preventing LGBTQ Americans from accessing the Senate to confirm him as Biden’s transportation secretary.

Buttigieg was recently attacked by conservative pundits and Republicans for speaking out on paid paternity leaves. Buttigieg has argued that all parents should be guaranteed paid parental leave by the United States government.
