Officials confirm eight people, including two teens, are among the dead after Houston music festival stampede

Officials said that 8 people died, with a 14-year old boy and a sixteen-yearold girl, while 25 were taken to Houston’s Astroworld festival for music on Friday.
Mayor Sylvester Turner announced that 7 victims were aged between 14-27 years. The age of one victim could not yet be established.
Five of the 25 patients who were taken to the hospital were younger than 18. According to the mayor, thirteen more people are currently in hospital. There is no missing person.
At 9 PM local time, the crowd began gathering for Travis Scott’s performance. Before the concert began, many concertgoers moved toward the front of stage. This caused panic and some injuries. The mayhem escalated until 9:38 p.m. when a “mass casualty incident” was triggered, Houston Fire Chief Samuel Peña said early Saturday. For eight of the victims, it was still not known what caused their deaths.
Scott said that he was devastated after launching the festival in his hometown, in 2018.
In a tweet, he stated that Houston PD had his total support and was continuing to investigate the tragedy of loss of life. I will work together with Houston residents to help families who are in dire need.
Festival attendees were estimated to be around 50,000. NBC News reportedThis is. Although the stampede was expected to continue through Saturday, officials cancelled the second-day event.
Troy Finner from Houston Police said there was also speculation that some people had been injecting others with drugs.
Finner said that the agency had a report about a security guard who reached out to grab a citizen but then fell unconscious after experiencing a pinched nerve in his neck. Finner said the officer was revived with Narcan, a common drug used to treat narcotic overdoses in emergencies, and was later found to have a prick consistent as “if someone was trying to inject.”
It is currently being investigated as to what took place at the incident and how it led to the deaths.
“This incident will be thoroughly investigated. “It is crucial that we ascertain what occurred, how it happened and where there may have been missteps,” Mayor Turner stated.
