(Reuters) – Travis Scott, a rapper and performer in Astroworld on Friday was intended to celebrate the resurgence his hometown after the worldwide pandemic that halted it’s annual hip-hop festival.

But disaster struck during his headline performance as, over the course of the Grammy Award-winner’s 90-minute show, at least eight of the 50,000 attendees died https://www.reuters.com/world/us/least-8-dead-many-injured-texas-music-festival-media-2021-11-06 and many more were injured as fans surged toward the stage.

Scott said to the crowd moments before tragedy struck, as captured by video posted online.

Aerial footage from the video shows a tight knit crowd of concert-goers around 18 minutes. The footage was originally uploaded by YouTube users but removed due to copyright violations on Saturday morning.

“I’d like to see some ragers,” says man. Do you want to be a rage? According to video footage, Scott addressed the crowd less than half an hour before his performance in front of the packed Houston NRG Park.

According to videos that carried an Apple (NASDAQ) Music watermark, audience members were seen moving to the music and some even body surfing above the crowd.

Scott interrupts the YouTube footage at around half an hour. He says: “There is an ambulance in the… whoah whomah.” The white roof of an ambulance can be seen in an aerial view being swallowed by the crowd.

Scott continues his show just moments later. He re-energizes the audience by saying, “Two hands towards the sky. I want this to… ground shake.”

The show is halted again less than 15 minutes later.

“We are in dire need of someone to assist us. Someone has already been taken care of. Please don’t touch his face, he’s not your friend, everyone just needs to get back up. Scott calls for security, someone help. He is being assisted by yellow-clad security personnel below.

The show goes on for several more minutes.

Scott once again asks the audience for an “earthquake” and then shares the stage with Canadian singer, songwriter, actor Drake towards the end.

Scott posted a Facebook post Saturday morning expressing his shock at the events and pledging to support police in their investigation. He also expressed desire to see the community healed.

His words were: “My thoughts and prayers go out for the families of all those who have been affected,” Love You All.
