(Reuters) – Vietjet Aviation JSC, a Vietnamese budget airline, announced that it has signed an agreement (OTC) with Airbus SE on Friday regarding the delivery of 119 aircraft ordered with the European company.

Airbus has ordered 119 A321neo narrowbody airplanes for use in domestic and international flights. In a Friday statement, Airbus did not give details about the new delivery dates.

Budget carriers from Southeast Asia that ordered hundreds of planes in advance of the pandemic were hard hit by restrictions on travel that kept their fleets grounded for several months. However, the situation is improving. Last month, domestic flights were allowed to resume in Vietnam and Malaysia.

Vietjet’s action comes just a month following the restructuring of Airbus orders by Malaysian budget airline AirAsia Group Bhd and revisions to its delivery schedules.

Christian Scherer, Chief Commercial Officer at Airbus, stated in a statement that Vietjet’s agreement was yet another example of Airbus working with customers to adjust to the effects of the pandemic.

Vietjet said that in line with its fleet development plans, it could take delivery up to three A330 widebodies from a leased A330 leasee in November.

Vietnam intends to resume commercial flight with 15 other countries beginning in January 2019. The aviation agency said Friday that the country is aiming for a complete resumption of international flights by July.
