UK’s Truss to visit southeast Asia to boost economic and security ties -Breaking

LONDON, (Reuters) – Liz Truss, British Foreign Secretary will visit Malaysia this Sunday in part of a week-long trip to Southeast Asia. The purpose of the visit is to strengthen economic and security ties.

Truss also plans to visit Thailand, Indonesia and other countries as part of Britain’s post Brexit strategy to increase relations with non-European nations.

Truss stated in a statement that he wanted to place Britain in the forefront of future growth and think about our key partners in 2050.

“Southeast Asia will drive the global economy. I believe Britain should be a part of it, upgrading our relations economic and secure with the region to reflect this growing importance. 

Truss stated that the Foreign Office would seek to establish closer connections on investment in infrastructure into the region.

The meeting will include discussions on topics including defense cooperation and trade as well as deepening digital and tech investments and security collaboration.

Truss and her Indonesian counterpart will have talks about foreign policy topics such as Myanmar or Afghanistan. They also hope to establish closer relations on cyber security and counterterrorism.
