REUTERS/Shannon Stapleton/File PhotoMOSCOW, Reuters -On Monday, a Moscow court fined Alphabet Inc. Google 2 million roubles ($28 085) for failing to delete content Russia considers illegal. This was in a larger dispute between Moscow’s tech company and America.
Russia threatens to sanction Google with a portion of its Russian revenue for not deleting banned content repeatedly on Google Search Engine and YouTube. It is Moscow’s boldest move yet in reining in foreign tech firms.
Google did not comment on Monday’s fine. However, it confirmed the fact that Google had imposed the penalty. A Russian lawmaker and Google last month claimed that the company had previously paid fines of more than 32 millions roubles.
Russia also fined Telegram 4,000,000 roubles for messaging app. Telegram didn’t immediately reply to our request for comment.
The court ordered that two other administrative cases against Google be rescheduled for Nov. 29 in order to allow a representative of Google to review the materials.
