GE to break up into 3 companies focusing on aviation, health care and energy

U.S. Industrial Giant General ElectricAfter years of underperformance, the company has announced that it will seperate into three separate companies.

The company will be broken up into distinct units that focus on health, energy and aviation. The company stated in a press release that GE intends to spin off the health-care and energy units by the beginning of 2023, as well as the business unit for aviation by the early 2024.

Premarket trading saw GE shares surge following the announcement.

By creating three world-leading global public companies each company will benefit from greater concentration, customized capital allocation and strategic flexibility in order to generate long-term value and growth for investors, employees and customers. “We are using our leadership, technology, and global reach in order to better service our customers,” Lawrence Culp, CEO, stated in a press statement.

After the transfer is completed, GE’s name will remain with the airline company. Culp will still lead the unit, according to the company.
