FRANKFURT – The low interest rates at the European Central Bank are causing more harm than it is boosting bank lending volumes, Andrea Enria (ECB top supervisor) said Tuesday.

Enria on Bloomberg TV stated, “The margin effect is predominant so there has been a negative effect bank margins but that is likely to continue for a while.”

He said that the environment of low rates was a net benefit for banks up to mid 2020.
