MOSCOW, (Reuters) – U.S. President Joe Biden could meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss their plans for the future. They may also speak via videoconference before the year ends, Russia’s Kommersant newspaper reports.

Biden met Putin at Geneva in June, with relations still low post-Cold War and soured by issues like Ukraine, Syria, and Alexei Navalny’s imprisonment.

Kommersant reported that while the sides hadn’t yet reached agreement on details for a new round, they had agreed to hold a conference via video by the end this year followed by an in-person meeting early next year.

According to the newspaper, the leaders will discuss the set of Geneva Summit agreements and the discussions would cover a broad range of topics.

On Tuesday, the Kremlin informed reporters that there wasn’t a time frame yet to hold a second round of negotiations. However, both Washington and Moscow agreed on their necessity.

Dmitry Peskov (Kremlin spokesperson) stated that the parties have reached an agreement that a meeting was necessary, and that communications between the two presidents must be maintained.
