BALTIMORE, Reuters -The President of the United States Joe Biden visited Baltimore Wednesday to show off his efforts to curb inflation. He stated that prices in stores across America are too high because inflation has reached a new level for 30 years.

Biden declared that consumers prices continue to be too high after fresh data indicated inflation was at its fastest pace for three decades. Biden pledged to address the problem “head-on”.

On Wednesday, the Labor Department reported that U.S. Consumer Prices grew 6.2% over the twelve months to October. This is the highest annual jump in a year since November 1990.

Biden visited Baltimore as the backdrop to his visit. It is one of America’s busiest ports.

Port congestion has been a major source of supply shortfalls in the U.S. economy, but they stand to benefit from billions in funding from the $1 trillion infrastructure package https://www.reuters.com/world/us/roads-bridges-airports-details-bidens-1-trillion-infrastructure-bill-2021-11-05 that passed on Friday with bipartisan support after months of negotiations.

The Democratic President, whose popularity is declining in recent months due to economic worries mounting, hopes to convince voters that Democrats have kept their campaign promises to invest the United States’ future before the 2022 midterm elections when they will attempt to protect its slim majority in Congress.

His efforts include working with Long Beach and Los Angeles ports to transport goods 24 hours a day, as well as new plans yesterday to ease congestion at Port of Savannah.

The infrastructure package includes $17 billion in investments https://www.reuters.com/world/us/white-house-looks-move-quickly-17-bln-revamp-us-ports-2021-11-09 to help ports, including dredging to allow for larger ships and capacity expansion. Another proposal, worth approximately $1.75 billion, will help expand the nation’s social safety net as well as combat climate change.

Baltimore is the US’s largest port for importing and exporting autos, machinery, and equipment. More than 15300 people are employed there.

The White House stated that improvements at Baltimore’s port have reduced congestion at East Coast ports. It can hold some of the biggest container ships around the globe.
