PARIS (Reuters – Mickey Mouse might be smiling, but there is dissatisfaction over shift work and pay among the Disneyland Paris staff. Protesters said this Wednesday.
As they arrived at Mickey’s Enchanted Kingdom, visitors rushed past several dozen CGT workers who were hard-left and flailing to “Bella Ciao”, protesting against their work conditions.
“Employees are asking for a salary increase,” said CGT union leader Fabien Beiersdorff, listing off complaints including 10-hour shifts and single-day breaks to the toots of airhorns from fellow protesters.
According to the company with 16,000 employees it stated in a statement, the gathering was not representative of the ongoing constructive dialogue they have with unions.
The company stated that they were committed to supporting employees’ purchasing power and had recently offered pay raises of up to 3 per cent in salary negotiations.
In June, after almost eight months of closure in the previous round of COVID-19 lockdowns France, the park reopened.
