NEW DELHI, (Reuters) – Cloud service provider Oracle (NYSE 🙂 announced Wednesday that it had partnered with Indian telecoms group Bharti Airtel to expand customer access in India’s fastest-growing market.

According to Garrett Ilg (President, Oracle Japan and Asia Pacific), the partnership with Airtel Nxtra will allow Oracle to expand its capacity in India West. The company has two cloud regions in Mumbai, the financial capital of Mumbai, and one in Hyderabad, the southern tech hub.

Ilg said that when a company such as Airtel is brought into the discussion, they establish relationships with customers… which will allow us to reach that customer base faster with more trust, and with less risk.

Ilg declined to disclose any financial details of the Oracle-Airtel partnership.

Oracle sees the partnership as an opportunity to market cloud services in India to Airtel’s nearly a million customers. The tie-up also offers the opportunity to reach millions of small business owners who are interested in digital services. Airtel also plans to increase its investment in data centers, which Airtel has already committed to investing more than $673 million. This arrangement will help Airtel attract new clients and generate additional revenue.

Airtel is competing with Mukesh Ambani, a billionaire tycoon and founder of Reliance Jio telecoms. In 2019, Reliance Jio formed an alliance with Microsoft (NASDAQ.) to create data centers across India. Jio joined forces with Google (NASDAQ 🙂 this year to expand its enterprise and consumer offerings. Jio also plans to launch 5G-related services.

Ilg stated that Oracle would hire thousands of people annually in the coming years. This highlights the Austin-based company’s emphasis on India.

Oracle announced that it would open a region of cloud in Singapore, which it will use to provide enterprise cloud services in Southeast Asia.

Ilg said that Oracle may also invest up to $30,000 in startups of the state, helping them improve their cloud capabilities.
