Aviva says capital return, cost savings plans on track -Breaking

March 7, 2019, REUTERS/Simon DawsonLONDON, (Reuters) – British insurance Aviva On Thursday, (LON) stated that it was on track for a return of at least 4billion pounds (5.41 billion dollars) to shareholders. The move comes as Cevian is attempting to pressure it into increasing its returns.
Cevian bought a 5 percent stake in Aviva and is requesting that Aviva return 5 Billion Pounds in capital by the 2022 end, after a spate of international sales.
Aviva stated in August it would pay 4 billion pounds back to shareholders. Cevian claimed that this was not enough.
Aviva announced on Thursday that it has completed 450million pounds of a share buyback of 750 million pounds and is on track to reach a target savings of 300 million pounds by 2022 relative to the 2018 baseline.
Cevian stated it also saw potential to further reduce costs by the insurer. This would amount at most 500 million pounds in 2023.
Amanda Blanc, Chief Executive Officer of Amaranth said in a statement that “We anticipate the positive trading momentum will continue in the Fourth Quarter” and stated that they are on track to reach or exceed their cash and cost savings targets.
It said net flows to Aviva’s retirement and savings business increased by 21% and that general insurance premiums rose by 5% in the first nine month of this year.
