(Reuters). Sony Bloomberg News reports that Group Corp reduced the production forecast for PlayStation 5 this fiscal year because of logistic and component constraints.

According to the report, around 15 million PS5 units have been produced by the company for fiscal year, down from 16 million units in its original target, according to people who are familiar with the operations.

This development occurs amid a worldwide shortage of semiconductors, which has impacted companies like Sony. Sony didn’t immediately reply to Reuters’ request for comment.

The conglomerate, which includes entertainment, financial services, and sensors, announced that it is on track for 14.8 million PS5 sales this year. This target takes account of global shortages.

Last year, gaming firms suffered from a drop in stay-at home demand as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. As the company nears the end of the year, HirokiTotoki, Sony’s finance chief, stated that the declining PlayStation user numbers has stabilized since then.

Sony will also partner with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. to create a $7 Billion chip plant in Japan.

The local media reported last month that the factory would provide semiconductors for Sony’s image-sensor business. Construction will commence in 2022 with the production scheduled to start at the end in 2024.
