Bluzelle is on a mission to become the Airbnb for decentralized cloud storage

You think about Airbnb. As many people, your first thought is likely of an online platform which connects users with the best rental accommodation in any part of the globe. You might also consider a cloud storage service similar.

Fully decentralized storage network

Cloud service providers are dominated by few companies, including Google (NASDAQ), Amazon (NASDAQ), and Microsoft (NASDAQ). Alibaba (NYSE:) IBM (NYSE:) and other options.

The commonality among all cloud storage providers that exist is their ability to be used for second-generation web 2.0. This is why they function as a centralized network.

The same applies to cloud services. User data is stored on one node. Or, depending on which way you look at it, a single table. A compromise of this database could pose a serious risk to all the storage.

Bluzelle, an open-source storage network designed for the creator economy is determined to address this seemingly unavoidable setback.

Bluzelle Network aims to achieve web 3.0 the same as Google, IBM and Microsoft Azure. Only in this instance, Google wants to take advantage of the potential inherent in blockchain technology.

During an exclusive interview with DailyCoin, Pavel Bains, the CEO and Co-Founder at Bluzelle, described the blockchain venture as the “Airbnb of decentralized storage.”

B2B’s unique feature is that it secures non-fungible tokens (NFTs), over its central storage, while also ensuring they are accessible and safe. Bluzelle is also an important part of the Decentralized Finance (DeFi), as it warns about potential attacks.

Bluzelle uses the blockchain distribution system to centralize cloud storage services, unlike centralized cloud services which rely only on one server or node.

Bluzelle allows computers from all over the globe to connect to its network. This allows them to each be converted to storage units and, just like Airbnb.

“Instead of sitting at one node that’s controlled by one company, we send it to the crowd and say offer up your storage and your space and we’re basically going to rent it out for you. So it’s basically the Airbnb of storage,”
Bains was noted.

Bluzelle has moved from mere data storage to file storage

Bluzelle was initially designed to be a data storage platform that uses blockchain technology. However, Bluzelle added file storage when it launched earlier this year. Bains said that Bluzelle’s status as a data-storage network has limitations in terms of the types of services it can offer.

However, file storage has allowed them to remove most of their limitations. This includes NFT file storage.

“Initially, we were focused on data storage, but earlier this year we realized that file storage is critical. We can do that better, because of the support for NFTs, and have only recently launched the file storage component to the platform,”
Bains explained.

Bluzelle Cloud Storage Network Supports File Replication

Bluzelle’s operational nodes are interconnected so files on the network can be replicated to multiple nodes. If a Bluzelle network node fails, the files on it are easily retrievable. This cannot be done on a network that is centralized and relies on one server. Therefore, it’s less reliable.

An example: If a Google cloud services or Amazon web services goes down for a while, end users are left in the dark until they get their system back online. Bluzelle allows users to retrieve files from all interconnected nodes if Bluzelle shuts down.

“With decentralized storage, such as Bluzelle, what we do is take your file and automatically replicate it within our storage network. So it has one owner, but we also validate that it is only one file that is replicated over all of our nodes so that even if one node fails, goes missing, or gets hacked into, your file remains unaffected,”
Bains explained.

Bains says that replicating a file within this context does not mean creating new files. Bains suggests, instead, that they’re replicating the file from the network and storing it at multiple places.

“So what we end up doing is we’re basically storing it at multiple places at the same time. So when it’s grabbed, there’s only one file that it grabs from. So if you do lose it or one node goes down it’s still there,”
Bains was noted.

The network algorithms store duplicate files randomly among the nodes, so when needed the algorithm can quickly and easily grab them from the closest node.

Bluzelle may not be the first of its type, but its unique approach to replicating files in multiple locations makes it different from IPFS or other decentralized storage systems, which store files only on one node.

  • Bluzelle is working on consumer-friendly plans, but currently Bluzelle uses a B2B model that limits it to enterprises-level users.
  • Bluzelle’s storage capacity is heavily dependent upon how strong its nodes network will get. In the interim, only a handful of adoptions have been made globally.
