FRANKFURT, (Reuters) – Hapag-Lloyd can clear container port logjams caused by pandemics faster if the operators improve the turnaround of containers, according to the chief executive at the German logistics firm.

In an earnings call, CEO Rolf Habben Jansen stated that there is still much to be done on efficiency. This includes the terminal side as well as the ability to ship boxes to customers.

He said, “That would enable us to eliminate some of the congestion,” in reference to the traffic jams caused by unexpected demand surges, labour shortages, and traffic congestions during the coronavirus epidemic.
