Johnson & Johnson plans to split into two companies, separating consumer health business

The shares of Johnson & JohnsonAfter the Healthcare giant declared that it would be splitting, premarket trading saw a surge.

One company will focus on consumer products like baby powder and Band-Aid bandsages, while another one will concentrate on prescription drugs.

Shares of Johnson & Johnson were up 4% in premarket trading after the announcement. CNBC.com asked JNJ to comment but did not receive a response.
