She voted in President Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial.
She stated in a video that she posted to her website, “I will cooperate with any party to advance Alaska’s priority and I will always stand against any politician or special interests that threaten our way to life.”
Murkowski was a moderate and one of seven Senate Republicans that voted for Trump’s conviction of inciting the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol Riot. In which Trump supporters attacked Congress to prevent certification of 2020 elections, Murkowski was among them. Murkowski was later exonerated by the Alaska Republican Party and promised to challenge her.
Trump was the second U.S. president impeached twice. The Senate narrowly overturned his conviction. Trump has blasted Republicans for blaming him for false claims that he lost his election to Democrat Joe Biden because of voter fraud.
Trump, still an influential Republican Party member, has endorsed Kelly Tshibaka as her Republican opponent. Kelly Tshibaka is a former State Administration Commissioner.
Murkowski, Tshibaka, and all other Senate candidates will be running next year in an open, all party primary.
