PORTLAND, Ore. – U.S. Coast Guard helicopters lifted twenty victims trapped in flash floods at Oregon’s recreational vehicle park to safety, officials said.

Officials say that torrential showers caused the creek near Neskowin in Oregon to burst, leaving 50 people stranded. It is located about 90 miles from Portland.

Officials from agency said that two Coast Guard helicopters, one of which was lowering a rescue swimmer, pulled 20 people and their dogs out of the park. They then airlifted them safely to nearby schools.

Coast Guard spokesperson Petty Officer 3rd class Michael Clark stated that the assistance was not offered to those 30 others who were caught in the downpour.

There were no injuries.

Officials said that the Coast Guard and Tillamook county emergency personnel responded to rising water levels, which had flooded the bridge connecting the park with the main coast highway. Clark stated that floodwaters could also lead to mudslides.

Portland’s National Weather Service issued flood warnings for most of Washington State and coastal Oregon. Reports of rainfall of up to 4 to 10 inches were reported in parts of the Pacific Northwest.
