WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – A group of U.S. States led by Texas filed an amended complaint against Alphabet’s Google (NASDAQ:) accusing it of coercive tactics as well as violating antitrust laws to increase its advertising revenue.
This is the latest round of scrutiny by regulators of Google’s practices. The Justice Department has filed a lawsuit against the tech firm for its monopolistic activities.
Google won an appeal against the $2.8 billion European Union antitrust ruling earlier this week.
Google was accused of using coercive techniques and monopolistic strategies with advertisers to drive out competitors in online advertising.
This lawsuit also highlights Google’s secret program, “Project Bernanke”, in 2013. It used bidding data for its own advertising buying advantage. Google, for example, is accused of dropping the second-highest auction bids to publishers and using the pool money to buy more ads from advertisers that used Google Ads. The states claimed that they would likely have lost the auctions if it had been otherwise.
Alphabet and the Texas Attorney General did not immediately respond to inquiries for comment.
