Vaccine mandate solves problems for HR chiefs — but creates new ones

The Covid-19 vaccine mandate is solving some thorny issues for chief human resources officers — but it’s creating new problems that are tougher to solve.

Many CHROs are frustrated at the inconsistencies between vaccine mandate start/stop. FareStart’s chief people officer Marcus Bryant said that the uncertainty of the date it would roll out, even before the mandate was made public, was disturbing.

Vaccine mandates create new problems

Bryant’s organization offers skills training and meals to help those who are homeless and poor. We also know some of our sister businesses may not have the same opportunities. It’s a lot of intellectual capital that could be lost if all their employees are unable to perform at the highest level. You don’t need to ask them for a job. This is on top of the turnover problem which makes it hard to recruit new talent. in an already-strained labor market, HR chiefs face difficulties supervising unvaccinated employees.

We are planning on using a current verification system to check vaccine status, which is not a big deal,” said Brenda Leadley, head of human resources for the Americas for Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty. Leadley said that her department faces another problem due to the fast time between the date being chosen and the scheduled requirement date for the vaccine mandate.

SoFi, like FareStart started mandating that employees be fully immunized on November 1. Anna Avalos is chief people officer for the personal finance platform. She stated her main priority is safety and the health of all employees. This goal was achieved by a vaccine requirement. 

Steve Pemberton is the Workhuman’s Chief Executive Officer. He stated that the mandate “reinforces the importance and effectiveness of the vaccine in fighting Covid-19.” Pemberton explained that Workhuman’s mandate includes a requirement across the company for all employees to have a vaccine upon their return to the workplace.
