(Reuters) -President Joe Biden needs to tap into oil reserves in order to bring down rising fuel prices during the holiday season. This was stated by Chuck Schumer, Senate Majority Leader.

Schumer, a Democrat said, “We are here today because it is urgent relief at the gasoline pump, and the place we should look at is the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.” Schumer spoke at a New York news conference.

As oil prices rose to more than $80 per barrel in October, OPEC was unable to resist the U.S.’s pleas that they pump more crude.

Jennifer Granholm, the Energy Secretary, stated last Monday that Biden was able to act. However, there were no words on whether Biden would approve a sale from U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve. The reserve is located in caverns off the Louisiana and Texas coasts.

Analysts warned that the Strategic Petroleum Reserve release would have no long-term impact on U.S. production, and would likely only cause a slight increase in U.S. output.

Schumer stated that supply and demand will not keep pace as the U.S. economy recovers from the coronavirus pandemic.

“No industry is left behind. Schumer declared that gasoline gasoline is the worst. “Let us get gas prices down immediately. It will be done.

Last week, 11 Senate Democrats urged Biden, in a written request, to tap SPR and prohibit exports to lower gasoline prices.

The senators from New England and Pennsylvania wrote that “Continued U.S. Exports and Overseas Supply Collusion Could Be Devastating to Many in Our States, Contributing to Higher Bills for American Families and Businesses,” on November 8.
