(Reuters) – Elon Musk, Chief Executive of Tesla (NASDAQ) Inc got in a fight with Bernie Sanders after the U.S senator asked that the rich pay their fair share of taxes.
We must insist that those who are extremely rich pay their fair share. Sanders posted the following tweet (NYSE:) Musk took a jab at Senator Sanders, 80 years old. He responded with “I keep forgetting to that you’re still here.”
A billionaire CEO, who as of Nov. 12 had sold $6.9 Billion worth of shares in electric car maker Tesla, wrote: “Want to sell more stock Bernie?” You just need to say it.
Sanders tweet is set against the backdrop Washington’s attempts to raise taxes for the super-wealthy.
U.S. Senate Democrats unveiled a plan to tax billionaires’ stocks and other trading assets in order to finance President Joe Biden’s Social Spending Agenda and to close a loophole which allowed them to delay capital gains taxes indefinitely.
Musk announced that he will sell 10% of shares to those who support the idea a week ago. A little over 57.9% of those who voted for it supported the sale.
