JAKARTA, Reuters – The fire that erupted at Pertamina’s Cilacap refinery complex, Central Java Province, was completely extinguished, according to the chief executive officer of Indonesian energy firm.
At a fuel storage facility, the fire began at 7:20 PM (1220 GMT). Local media broadcast amateur videos that showed the large fireball turning the sky orange.
Pertamina’s CEO Nicke Widyawati said that “the fire at Cilacap one of the 228 tanks didn’t cause any shutdown so there wasn’t an impact on the production.”
Nicke indicated that investigators are still investigating the causes of the fire.
Elle also stated that the supply conditions for motor fuels were stable.
Pertamina claims that Cilacap is the biggest refinery facility in Pertamina and provides fuel for around 34% Indonesia’s demand.
According to the company, around 80 residents who had been evacuated over night have now returned home.
