Tony Bancroft is a 35 year veteran in the animation business. He cannot emphasize enough the value of personal branding through social media. Bancroft has more than 114,000 Instagram followers. He started his account in 2015 in order to share his artwork and remain relevant within the animation industry.
Bancroft also serves as the Azusa Pacific University program director for the Animation and Visual Effects degree program.
He is right.
Bancroft is a social media expert who has seen many of his students contact him directly via the internet for small and large projects. You don’t have to make a brand. It does not need to take too much time, be hard, or seem daunting. It’s important to just be you. A few followers, consistent posts and direct messaging are all good ways to get you into the door.
Trevor Dunnigan, a third year film student sees it. “The only thing that you can do for your case is to help it,” he says.
Actually, nearly half of employers say that they are less likely to call a job candidate for an interview if they cannot be found online — and that’s just for office jobs.
Dunnigan is a “gaffer” who has worked on many film sets near Chapman University. He also does the hiring. I don’t have the business cards of people. He said, “I get someone’s Instagram.”
Dunnigan is able to gauge the quality of productions by simply looking at someone’s profile from their main feed through their followers tab. What is their work schedule? Who do we both know?

Instagram Stories may be particularly helpful to candidates, if your personal account is not in danger or you aren’t looking to create another “professional” profile. You can post a Story for 24 hours to say thanks to your coworkers at the completion of a project or to create a Story Highlight that will display the completed projects. Highlights can be found right below your bio, above your posts and in the best place to showcase your most important content.
“There is a drone company in LA, which I applied for.” [to]Dunnigan says that they were influenced by their Instagram Story. He recalls that before he hit send, he thought: “You know, the worst that could happen to me is that they don’t get back with me.”
Dunnigan didn’t hear from the company. However, he is glad that he submitted his application. He wouldn’t have been able to find the job if he hadn’t followed them on Instagram. And, you never know — maybe a job opportunity doesn’t work out now, but it could lead to something down the road.
Greene also says that Instagram is his favorite social media platform, and it’s “just because TikTok has so much more.”

Makena Yee, a senior student at University of Washington in Seattle. She was among four TikTok representatives at university last year.
Yee explains that TikTok’s first release was met with ridicule by people. “One day I stumbled across this video that was like, ‘Hey, if you want to work for TikTok, you should totally apply’ … So I decided to take that risk.”
Although Yee is no longer a TikTok representative, the risk she took continues to pay dividends.
Yee uploaded a 60 second video in May as part of soft launch of “TikTok resumes.” Yee claims that the program resulted more than fifteen job requests and six interviews. She received some responses like “Send this TikTok my team,” and “Hire her !!!!”.” “Leading by example”

You can make social media work for you by using these simple tips.
1. Accept your tools. 500,000 followers ago, Kahlil Greene had no design experience. His three most popular accounts are now managed by him using all the platform’s built-in functions as well design apps such as Canva and Bazaart. However, it doesn’t mean you have to start a blog. “Gen-Z Historian”In the same way Greene achieved career success via social media, It is easier to build a career than ever thanks to the availability of more tools.
2. Do your research. How can you support the dream company? Find out the values of your dream company on social media and include them in your pitch. You will have a better job hunt if you are able to identify the most prominent platforms in your field and speak intelligently in cover letters, DMs or interviews about a company.
3. Establish connections. Employers can connect via social media by demonstrating three key qualities, confidence, drive and openness. It’s possible to connect with staff that wouldn’t otherwise be interested in your job search. Trevor Dunnigan says, “I have personally messaged many cinematographers asking little questions here and there.” “A film school kid who’s super curious in [what they do]Wants to know more? They will send paragraphs.
4. Take pride in your accomplishments Although your people skills are great, getting an interview or an official job offer requires that you possess the necessary skills. You can still gain experience by posting to social media about the experience that you have. While you work out ways to improve, you might also be able to share your learnings. Even if your portfolio isn’t as impressive as Tony Bancroft’s animation students’, you can still use social media to highlight your work.
5. You are the best version of yourself Korin Harris said, “You can have your private life.” As the recruiter did in her job, you can stick to LinkedIn, but at minimum, use LinkedIn. Employers don’t look for perfect people, but only qualified candidates. Do your best to present yourself.
It is never too late — or too early — to start building your social media brand.
