China has been fighting the largest Covid-19 virus outbreak in its history, as revealed by numbers released Monday. This is due to the fact that travelers arriving from China have become more infected than others in the country, making them subject to strict quarantine regulations in surrounding areas.

Chinese officials reported 32 domestically transmitted diseases with confirmed symptoms for Nov. 14. Most of them were located in Northeastern Dalian. This brings the total number of local cases in the area since Oct. 17, to 1,308, according to Reuters calculations based upon official data. It surpasses the 1,280 cases reported during the summer Delta epidemic.

China’s worst-ever Delta virus outbreak has hit 21 provinces, areas, and cities. It is less severe than some other international outbreaks. However, Chinese authorities want to prevent any more transmissions.

Thanks to a quick set of curbs that included rigorous contact trace, multiple rounds testing, rapid implementation of complex measures, and the closing of entertainment venues, cultural venues, and restraints on tourism, and public transport, a dozen regions at the provincial level were able to contain their outbreaks in just weeks.

Wu Liangyou from the National Health Commission said that Dalian is still fighting the virus.

Dalian was the site of the initial local symptomatic cases from the current outbreak on Nov. 4. Since then, the port city with 7.5 million inhabitants has reported an average of 24 new local cases per day. That’s more than any other Chinese city according to Reuters calculations.

A handful of cities around Dalian include Shenyang and Anshan. They have stated that people who arrive from Dalian must be kept in quarantine at central facilities for fourteen days before they are allowed to move about freely. This is an unusually prudent precaution.

On Nov. 14, China reported that there had been 98.315 coronavirus-related cases in mainland China. This includes those contracted from abroad. There were 4,636 deaths.
