(Reuters) – U.S. president Joe Biden, fresh from signing the bipartisan infrastructure bill, will visit New Hampshire Tuesday. This is a critical state in 2022’s midterms. Biden plans to highlight the benefits of the bill and revive his party’s slumping numbers.

Biden, his Democratic Party and other Democrats are betting on bipartisan progress as well popular policies like creating jobs and investing in infrastructure. The Republican opposition remains split over the Jan. 6 attack by Trump supporters on Capitol Hill and whether or not to work with Biden in regular governance.

But, Republicans were able to win key elections by warning against inflation and tax under Biden and stirring up hatred on cultural issues. Biden’s poll numbers have been in decline.

New Hampshire hosts a crucial U.S. Senate election and two congressional contests. All are held by Democrats in an unfavorable midterm.

Biden is expected to travel to Woodstock, New Hampshire, to visit the NH 175 bridge, which spans the Pemigewasset River and has been on the state’s “red list” of bridges in poor condition since 2013.

On Wednesday, he will be in Detroit to promote investment in electric cars, and Vice President Kamala Harris will visit Columbus, Ohio on Friday to present the package. This busy schedule of travel is designed to reinforce the fact that Democrats have kept their word.

“We are hoping that’s going to have an impact,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters on Monday.

Neil Levesque was the New Hampshire Institute of Politics executive director at Saint Anselm College. It’s not a secret that Biden plans to visit New Hampshire in 2022 to stop the bleeding.

Levesque stated that his latest poll showed that 68% believe that the United States is on the wrong path. This number can be devastating for incumbents who may feel responsible. His poll showed that 55% of those who voted in February after Biden’s election were doing so.

WIDER CONCERNS

For the party in the White House, midterm elections present a challenge. There are other concerns, however.

New Hampshire senator Maggie Hassan is a Democrat and could be up for reelection by 2022. Analysts believe it will be close, even though Chris Sununu (the expected Republican top contender) decided to run for governor in lieu of challenging Maggie.

Hassan raised records in the last quarters. Now, Hassan wants to be a bipartisan legislator in the bipartisan infrastructure bill. Hassan has been touring the state recently to see water treatment plants, solar farms, and other projects in order to highlight the necessity for public investment.

Hassan told Reuters that the measures he fought for in the bill would strengthen communities, boost our economy and create jobs. He said this in a release to Reuters.

Biden’s job approval rating in New Hampshire – which he carried by 7.4 percentage points in 2020 – sits at around 44%, according to the latest statewide poll conducted in October by Saint Anselm College.

All Democrats in Congress are under the water on approval for job, according to the poll.
