Shimmer is a new staging network that the Iota Foundation announced in an attempt to follow the Iota roadmap and achieve fully functional decentralization.

Developers and builders will use the layer-one network as a testbed to develop and build innovative applications for decentralized finance (DeFi), nonfungible tokens and other financial services. The sandbox allows apps to test their efficiency and compatibility before launching on Iota’s mainnet. This ensures smooth deployment.
