WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – U.S. Treasury secretary Janet Yellen said Tuesday that she will visit tribes over the course of the year to continue her department’s engagement with Native American Tribes. These communities were disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Yellen stated that almost 100% of a $20 million COVID-19 relief grant earmarked to tribes was now available. She said it was “quite quick”, but she needed more assistance.

According to her, a Monday’s signing of a $1 trillion infrastructure bill and the $1.75 billion social and climate spending bills still in Congress will provide critical support for tribal families and governments.
