WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – The White House praised Wednesday’s improvements in U.S. supply chain congestion, which saw more goods move than ever, but stressed that more work is needed to promote fair competition in a global shipping industry dominated by three alliances consisting of international ocean carriers.

According to the White House National Economic Council, FMC (NYSE :)), is an independent agency that investigates excessive shipping costs. But, they suggest other options, such as challenging carrier alliances, if necessary, in order to avoid unreasonable costs and delays.

The FMC was also asked to push Congress for reforms that would give it more power to monitor the shipping industry, such as transparency regarding fees charged by carriers to their customers.
