SHANGHAI, (Reuters) – WeRide is a China-based autonomous-driving startup that plans to open its robotaxis for public booking on Guangzhou Automobile Group’s Ontime ride-hailing platform by next year.

WeRide, which is backed by Nissan (OTC Motor), stated in a statement that it will offer public test rides at the Guangzhou Auto Show. The show starts in southern China on Friday. They were also testing the robotaxi and said that it has been integrated in the Ontime platform.

Automakers and tech companies are investing in autonomous driving in order to get a head start in the area many see as the future of mobility.

AutoX, a Chinese auto-vehicle startup, will launch Tuesday in China. It is supported by Alibaba (NYSE) Group stated that its robotaxi zones in China’s Shenzhen have been expanded to create the nation’s largest robotaxi zone. The area covers 65-miles (168km).
