BERLIN (Reuters), – Daimler (OTC) announced Thursday that it will begin producing the first electric motor in its Berlin plant from 2022. This is a relief for workers who were worried about the future of the Diesel Motor Production Site.

Daimler announced that it would offer retraining and programming to workers concerned for their safety after it stated in September 2020 that the Berlin location would stop producing the 6-cylinder diesel engine motor in a year.

Daimler announced that the investment in Berlin Marienfelde will go up to a low amount of three million euros in the next six-years, compared with the two-digit amount previously.

According to YASA Daimler’s chief executive officer, the motor is known as an axial flow motor. It was developed by the British startup YASA Daimler earlier in the year.
