TOKYO (Reuters – Japan intends to spend at least 770billion yen ($6.74billion) on defense as part of a supplementary budget, Kyodo News reported. This is due to be presented alongside an economic stimulus plan.

This amount, which is the largest for defense in a supplement budget, would be dwarfed by the 430 billion Japanese yen allocated in fiscal 2019. It would also include expenditures for strengthening Japan’s defense capabilities around the southwest islands. Kyodo reported.

According to the Business Daily, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is likely to announce Friday a 55.7 trillion yen record-breaking stimulus package to support the recovery from COVID-19.
