WASHINGTON (Reuters] – If their party takes control of Congress in the next election cycle, two Republican senators can be restored to their assigned committee positions.

Kevin McCarthy, House Republican Leader, told reporters that Marjorie Taylor Greene and Paul Gosar, both Democrats, would be allowed to sit on the committees of Republicans.

They may be assigned to other committees. McCarthy stated to reporters that “they may have other committee assignments.” McCarthy spoke out after McCarthy censured Gosar following an anime clip in which Gosar killed Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, Democratic lawmaker. He also swings a pair swords at President Joe Biden.

Greene was a first-term lawmaker and she lost her assignments to committee in February because of incendiary comments that supported violence against Democrats.

Gosar was relegated to the Oversight and Reform Committee and Natural Resources Committee. Greene was also removed from both the Budget Committee and Education and Labor Committee.

Ten months after Trump’s supporters stormed Congress in support of his presidential election loss, the Gosar-Greene cases highlight the intensity of the threatening rhetoric within Congress.

McCarthy refused to discipline Gosar nor Greene, two staunch Trump allies. However, he stated Wednesday that Republicans could prevent some Democrats serving in committees if the Republicans win control of this chamber.

House Republicans voted to remove Republican Representative Steve King (Republican) from its committees in 2019 after King raised concerns about white supremacy during an interview. In 2020, he was defeated in primary elections by another Republican.
